      Augustana Family Weekend 2019

      Our annual Family Weekend gives families a taste of what it’s like to be a Viking! Enjoy a campus tour or a riverboat cruise. Cheer on our Vikings football team and have a family photo taken on our beautiful campus. Most events are free, but we would appreciate knowing how many people plan to attend. Please register and purchase tickets by September 13.  10% EARLY-BIRD REGISTRATION DISCOUNT HAS BEEN EXTENDED THROUGH AUGUST 18TH.   SCHEDULE OF EVENTS Saturday, Sept. 21 9-10:30 a.m. PRESIDENT’S WELCOME and BREAKFAST Anderson Pavilion Please join us for the opening welcome from President Steve Bahls and meet Augustana’s Vice-President of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Dr. Monica Smith. $10/Adult, $6/Child (ages 3-10). Augustana students pay adult price 10 a.m.-4 p.m. FRYXELL GEOLOGY MUSEUM Free admission 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m., CORE OPEN HOUSE Olin Center Learn about the many opportunities available to Augustana students through the offices of CORE (Careers, Opportunities, Research, Exploration). Register – no charge 11-11:30 a.m., CURRENT HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS: WELCOME TO AUGUSTANA! Hanson 102 Admissions staff will discuss how to get the most out of a college visit and what to expect from coaches, music programs and scholarships; and answer your questions. All participants receive an Augustana T-shirt! Register – no charge 11:00 a.m. Museum of Art, Centennial Hall Augustana Teaching Museum of Art, Centennial Hall Enjoy a guided tour of the Augustana Teaching Museum of Art. Limited to 50 participants Register – no charge 11:00 a.m. Campus Tour Enjoy a guided campus tour showcasing new construction on campus. Tour begins at the Anderson Pavilion, outside the Brunner Theatre Center. Limited to 50 participants Register – no charge Noon-1:30 p.m. LUNCH The Gerber Center or on your own off campus Pay at the door – $10.50/adult; $7.00/child ages 3-12; Augustana students may use meal card. 1:00 p.m. AUGUSTANA PLANETARIUM SHOW John Deere Planetarium Dr. Lee Carkner, Professor of Physics and Astronomy and director of the John Deere Planetarium will provide two shows in the newly renovated planetarium. Shows will be identical and take place at 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m., lasting approximately 40 minutes each. The John Deere Planetarium at Augustana College just underwent a complete renovation with new seats, lights, sound system and a new high resolution fulldome projector system for our 30 foot dome.  Come see our new show Destination Mars, where we take a journey into the past and future of the Red Planet and learn about NASA's plans to explore the solar system.  President Steve Bahls and his wife, Jane Easter Bahls, invite families to their home. Take advantage of the beautiful fall foliage and have a family photo taken. Register – no charge, All families attending the Open House will receive a free family picture. 4:30-5:30 p.m. PRE-GAME PICNIC Tent on the Quad $15/adult, $8/children ages 3-10. Augustana students pay adult price. Registration is encouraged as tickets are limited. 6 p.m. FOOTBALL: AUGUSTANA VIKINGS VS. ELMHURST Lindberg Stadium $7/adult or pay at the gate $4/children ages 3-17
 Free for Augustana students with Augustana ID SUNDAY, SEPT. 22 10:30 a.m. OUTDOOR ECUMENICAL WORSHIP SERVICE Gazebo near Thomas Tredway Library (rain location: Ascension Chapel) Join College Chaplain Richard Priggie ’74 for an outdoor service open to all. Noon-2 p.m. CELEBRATION BELLE RIVER CRUISE LUNCH 2501 River Drive, Moline Have lunch with your family while cruising the Mississippi River on the Celebration Belle, an 800-passenger paddlewheel boat. Boarding begins at noon.
