A treasured Mississippi Opera tradition and one of the most popular operas of all time ― Celebrate with the whole family.

Just after the birth of Christ, near Bethlehem, there lived a young crippled boy named Amahl. Each day his mother worried that he would become a beggar. One evening there was a knock at their door and when Amahl answered, he was shocked to see three Kings. The Kings told Amahl and his mother that they were on a journey to bring gifts to a very special child, and could they please stay at their home for the night. While the kings slept, the mother attempted to steal some of their gold for her son. She was stopped by the kings' page. When Amahl awakened to find the page grabbing his mother, he attacked the page. Seeing Amahl's defense of his mother and understanding the motive for the attempted theft, the kings allowed her to keep the gold. Filled with shame, the mother asked the kings to take back the gold. She also wished to send a gift to the child, but lamented that she had nothing to give. Amahl, too, had nothing to offer except his crutch. When he offered it to the kings, his leg was miraculously healed. Amahl then departed with the kings to see the Christ Child.
