      Human Rights Awards Breakfast

      The Iowa City Human Rights Commission will honor the following individuals and organizations during its 36th Annual Human Rights Awards Breakfast later this month: Jesse Case: The Isabel Turner Award for working for the rights of individuals to get fair treatment Elizabeth Bernal: The Rick Graf Award for long-term commitment to a specific cause for the benefit of a specific group of persons Angie Jordan: The Linda Severson Award for contributions to human rights by an individual in a service organization Inside Out Reentry: The Bill Reagan Community Award for contributions to human rights by an organization Matthew Farrey: The Kenneth Cmiel Award for actively working in the human rights field in a dedicated and determined way Kevin Sanders: The International Award for significant contributions to human rights in the global community.The awards breakfast will be held Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2019, in the ballroom at the Hilton Garden Inn Iowa City Downtown University, 328 S. Clinton St. Breakfast will be available starting at 7:15 a.m., with the program beginning promptly at 7:30 a.m. Dr. Melissa Shivers, Vice President for Student Life at the University of Iowa, will deliver the keynote address. Tickets are $20 per person through October 14, and $25 per person beginning October 15 and must be purchased by Friday, Oct. 18 at Tickets will not be sold at the door. Free and reduced-priced tickets are available on a first-come first-served basis.
