      Family Computer Coding Day - July 20, 2019

      FAMILY COMPUTER CODING DAY Download a flyer  We welcome ALL students from kindergarten through 8th grade to join us.  Parents are welcome as observers. Teachers are welcome as observers or participants.  Teacher-participants will receive a copy of the lesson plan.  This program is appropriate for ALL students.  It is especially valuable for those with dyslexia but EVERYONE is encouraged to attend. Change the world through code Learn how to design a computer game using coding on Python Use Virtual Reality Headsets! Make and take home slime Agenda for the day: 1. John will welcome us and provide an overview of his dyslexia as well as how he discovered that he is dyslexic. 2. Students (and teachers) will create robot or race car 3.  Students (and teachers/parents) will have an opportunity to experiment with virtual reality headsets 4. Students (and teachers) will create slime and enhance it using a variety of multi-sensory strategies. Each students will take home his/her slime. 5.  Students will participate in a variety of fun group leadership activities using several multi-sensory strategies. Parents are encouraged to attend a Q&A session during #4. John's book, School Dropout to Harvard, will be available for sale and he will sign autographs after the program. Snacks will be provided. Please register early because seating and materials are limited.  Online tickets will be available through July 18th at 11:30 am.  If available, tickets will be sold on day of event. Limited to 40 students and 25 adults The overall goal is to develop valuable skills which apply to technology and creative thinking, areas in which dyslexic  students excel.  The activities will be valuable for ALL students.
