Portlands esteemed chamber choir, Renaissance Voices, will perform at the Brunswick Unitarian Universalist Church on Saturday, May 15th at 7:30 pm as part of the Concerts for a Cause series to raise money for local charities. Renaissance Voices is a 24-voice, auditioned, a cappella chorus based in Portland, Maine. They specialize in music from the medieval period through the 17th century, but performances regularly feature more contemporary work, including premieres of pieces by both new and established composers. Distinctive to the group's mission is an ongoing commitment to presenting the works of women composers. Concerts also feature short readings that complement the themes of the musical selections. Renaissance Voices is comprised of both professional and experienced amateur musicians and enjoys an ever-widening fan base from throughout southern and central Maine. Director, Harold Stover is a nationally known organist who attended Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh and is a graduate of the Juilliard School in New York. He presently teaches at the Portland Conservatory of Music, directs Renaissance Voices, and maintains an active career as a composer and organ recitalist. His career as an organ recitalist has taken him to most major New York venues, the National Cathedral in Washington, Westminster Abbey in London, Harvard and Princeton universities, and many other distinguished venues. Stover has made 10 appearances as organist and composer on Pipedreams, American Public Medias radio program of organ music. Tickets: $15 in advance, $18 at the door Students/Children: $5.
