National Theatre Live Presents A Midsummer Night's Dream

A Midsummer Night’s Dream - captured live during its run at the Bridge Theatre will be released to cinemas 17 October with National Theatre Live.

A feuding fairy King and Queen of the forest cross paths with four runaway lovers and a troupe of actors trying to rehearse a play. As their dispute grows, the magical royal couple meddle with mortal lives leading to love triangles, mistaken identities and transformations… with hilarious, but dark consequences.

Shakespeare’s most famous romantic comedy will be captured live from the Bridge Theatre in London. Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones), Oliver Chris (Green Wing, NT Live: Young Marx), David Moorst (NT Live: Allelujah!) and Hammed Animashaun (The Barber Shop Chronicles) lead the cast as Titania, Oberon, Puck and Bottom.

This production re-unites the team responsible for last year’s smash hit Julius Caesar including Tony and Olivier award winning director Nicholas Hytner (The History Boys, One Man Two Guvnors). The Bridge Theatre once again become a forest – a dream world of flying fairies, contagious fogs and moonlight revels, surrounded by a roving audience following the action on foot.

National Theatre Live captures live performances from the UK, celebrating it's 10th anniversary this year. Over ten years, NT Live has shown over 80 theatre productions in 3500 venues worldwide, reaching an overall audience of nearly 9 million people. NT Live currently screens in 2500 venues across 65 countries.

National Theatre Live is the closest thing audiences have to experiencing the feeling of actually sitting in the theater. Broadcasts retain the feeling of a live performance and though each broadcast is filmed in front of a live audience in the theatre, cameras are carefully positioned throughout the auditorium to ensure that cinema audiences get the ‘best seat in the house.’
